Bison farmers from across Ontario, along with friends, family and the public interested in what we are doing - joined us at Big Rock Bison for a day full of amazing speakers, great food and wonderful company.
Mother nature tried to rain on our parade - and she did for most of the day! But we were able to get our double wagon set up out into the field to get up close and personal with the herd.
We had Dave Meli from the Healthy Butcher give an entertaining and informative talk about Toronto consumers and what they are looking for and how we as producers can reach them.
Myron Wigness spoke on animal handling facilities and why different configurations work for different farms.
Steve Zehr chatted about his mineral company and the benefits that they are seeing in the industry and how we can apply these in the bison world.
Lee and Mary Grease from NorthStar Bison in Wisconsin gave a very educational talk on the benefits of grass finishing and shared some of their tips and tricks on how they have grown to be a "go-to" resource on all things Bison and 100% gras fed.
We enjoyed a wonderful chef prepared lunch, lots of great conversations and fellowship. We ended the day with a "cold one" from Cowbell Brewery and a live auction hosted by our local MP Bill Walker.
Many stayed on into the evening where we had a feast of Bison burgers and live music.
All in all we are so happy with how the day turned out and hope that everyone who joined us learned a little something too.
Next year the event will be held at Bison DuNord in Earlton Ontario.
Thank you to all we were very happy hosts
